La Araucanía, en la República de Chile fue anexada a fines del siglo XIX, a través de una ocupación militar trazando líneas de ocupación en que fue fundamental la construcción de fuertes. Los cementerios de la Araucanía, son reflejo precisamente de esta diversidad, de la concepción de viaje del pueblo mapuche en sus innumerables reducciones a las cuales fueronrelegados, conservando una estrecha relación entre sujeto y naturaleza, unión que simboliza variados códigos de un estado de preparación de la muerte, entendido como un viaje a una plataforma superior. Los cementerios de la Araucanía, presentan una variedad única, se distinguen allí, el contraste evidente entre lo terrenal y lo divino en sus diversas formas aportadas por las heterogéneas culturas que convergieron. Formas que dan cuenta de conceptos de vanidad,descanso, resguardo, cobijo, entre otros con un sentido único: dar cuenta de la vida, mas que la de la muerte.Downloads
