Religion, Secularity and Secularism. A contemporary debate in light of the Brazilian case

The aim of this article is to chart the international academic debate about secularity and secularism in order to seize its main arguments and their consequences to the reorganization of the field of religious sociological and anthropological studies. Besides that, taking into account the specificities of Brazilian historical and social formation of the
secular, we intend to examine, in its broad outlines, the setting of this debate in contemporary Brazil and the way it challenges the academic understanding of religious
phenomena.
