El fin se acerca. Historia y escatología en el pentecostalismo “tradicional” chileno

Este artículo se basa en 14 meses de investigación etnográfica en una iglesia Pentecostal en Chile, y aborda la problemática sobre interpretaciones escatológicas de acontecimientos históricos y actuales. La escatología no es solamente una creencia en un futuro en el cual se cumplirán profecías bíblicas, sino que también es una manera de leer e interpretar la historia y de relacionarse como sujeto en los conflictos mundiales y en los acontecimientos de la actualidad. Tomando como base estudios sobre la globalización que enfatizan en una nueva conciencia de inserción en un mundo de orden global, demuestro a lo largo de este artículo como los discursos escatológicos les facilitan a los Pentecostales esta inserción. Al mismo tiempo que los discursos escatológicos establecen un papel y una misión histórica importante para los sujetos pentecostales, cuya misión es evangelizar y atraer el poder de Dios preparando así al mundo para la segunda venida de Cristo.
