“LA HORTALIZA DE AMÉRICA”: EL NEOPENTECOSTALISMO ÉTNICO DE ALMOLONGA, GUATEMALA

El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo describir el fenómeno neopentecostal que se ha desarrollado en el municipio de Almolonga, Guatemala. Se señalan las características que lo podrían distinguir de otros neopentecostalismos observados en contextos mayormente urbanos. Para este propósito se utilizó el método etnográfico, la observación participante, entrevistas y encuestas que fueron realizadas en un periodo de ocho meses repartidos entre los años 2010 y 2014. De esta forma se pudo comprender cómo un fenómeno religioso como éste se adapta a las diferentes condiciones sociales, culturales y económicas de una comunidad, permitiendo así, la redefinición de la identidad étnica y religiosa.
