Cuidados Paliativos: ¿aceptación social de la muerte?

Este artículo presenta y discute una propuesta reciente de construcción de nuevas representaciones sociales de la muerte, a partir de un conjunto de prácticas y discursos denominados Cuidados Paliativos, que surgió inicialmente en Inglaterra y Estados Unidos afinales de la década de 1960. Esta modalidad de asistencia a los enfermos diagnosticados como “fuera de posibilidades terapéuticas de cura” fue creada en oposición a una práctica médica eminentemente tecnologizada y racionalizada en la cual el enfermo era excluido del proceso de la toma de decisiones relativas a su vida y a su propia muerte. La investigación comprendió observación etnográfica en el primero hospital público de Cuidados Paliativos enBrasil, en la ciudad de Río de Janeiro, sumado a congresos y entrevistas efectuadas a profesionales de la salud brasileños.Downloads
